Description: 12-year-old Dre Parker and his mother Sherry move from Detroitto Beijingafter getting a job transfer at a car factory. After a day in a park, Dre develops a crush on a young violinist, Meiying, who reciprocates his attention, but a 14-year old boy named Cheng, a rebellious kung fu prodigy whose family is close to Meiying's, attempts to keep them apart by beating Dre, and later bullies him at school. During an attack, the maintenance man Mr. Han comes to Dre's aid, revealing himself as a kung fu master.
12-year-old Dre Parker has moved to China, and finds himself like a fish out of water. He befriends a fellow classmate, Mei Ying, only to make a rival, Cheng, who starts to bully and attack Dre. Soon, Mr Han, the maintenance man of Dre's apartment, fends off Cheng and his friends when they are attacking Dre and signs Dre up to fight in the Kung Fu tournament in return for the bullies laying off of Dre.
Dre realizes Mr. Han is much more than a maintenance man, when he's revealed as a master of Kung Fu and Dre soon learns that Kung Fu is about self defense and peace, instead of violence and bloodshed.
Currently, with a 5.1/10 rating, this is a very underrated film. I don't understand why Jaden Smith is getting so much hate, whether it is because he was 'pushed in' to the movie business or if it's because he's playing a black person who moves to China, where in the original, the main character is white. I can tell that a large amount of people that voted haven't even seen this before. This film contains beautiful cinematography, great fighting scenes, and fun music for the audience to listen to.
Let's forget that the main character is black, and is moving to China, for a second. Do you think this movie would still have gotten 5.1/10? I truly recommend this film to everyone. Children and even adults will like this movie. Before you go to the movie, don't base it on the IMDb rating, because most likely, you'll go into the film thinking it's bad, then going with the crowd. First, check the IMDb message boards, or check a website with real critics like Rotten Tomatoes, or AOL movies.
This is one of the my favourite films (though not the best) of 2010, and should not be missed by anybody. So should you ask the question 'See it, or flee it?' I will, and as will many others respond with a 'see it'.
